Advising/Teaching
Some types of writing, like journal articles or novels, are ready-made for the noticing and the tabulating. Each one, after all, represents a substantial effort that culminates, after plenty of skull-sweat and muttered swearing and research half necessary and half used as procrastination, in a product with a sizable word-count and a byline at the top. My various jobs in student service, however, have always entailed plenty of useful informative and explanatory writing, too. They don’t always stand out, though, in the way a big project does. Putting together this list was a nice exercise for me in corralling quite a bit of disparate, less-noticed work—sometimes I surprise even myself.
