Welcome to my website!
I am a professional writer and editor, so this site focuses first on my own writing—on authors like Ray Bradbury and Robert A. Heinlein and others, on my novel, and on my teaching/advising-related materials. It also showcases some science fiction cover art from my collection, especially my huge galleries of Heinlein cover art, and it has some useful links out as well.
As a writer, I may be known most for my literary criticism, since in academic journals and books I have published around 40 articles, chapters, and reviews on a fair range of authors. My work on Bradbury and Heinlein is probably the most familiar to students. In 2013 I recruited for, wrote for, and edited a very fine collection of essays on Fahrenheit 451, while in 2015 I did the same for a book on the works of Robert A. Heinlein, and in 2017 I did such for a book on the works of Ray Bradbury. In 2014 I released my own literary novel, and in 2020 I published my memoir, which is illustrated with family photos spanning two continents and six generations. Over the years I have done a bit of poetry here and there as well.
I have spent over 30 years in academia, holding a B.A. with Honor in English and History, an M.A. in English and History, and another M.A. in English. In the first 12 years of my career I taught English at places like Michigan State University, Lansing Community College, and Western Michigan University, while since the turn of the century I have focused on the student services area and administration at LCC. In addition, in the last few years I have broadened my writing, contributing to reference texts on topics ranging from Shakespeare to Silent Spring and from Tolkien to To Kill a Mockingbird, which feels very nice.
I hope you may find something interesting and helpful here. Under the “My Writings” tab at the top, “Literary Criticism” has articles for students, and “Advising/Teaching” has for a wealth of info for academic advisors. In addition, the “Heinlein Cover Art” and “Other SF Art” pages of course contain a wealth of entertaining visual images from the field of science fiction and fantasy.
